Radhey Shyam Sharma teak concert sitar.
7 main strings ~ 13 sympathetics
~ Ravi Shankar/kharaj pancham style.
Made from aged salvaged teak! Set up in kharaj pancham style
without top tumba as is common throughout India and
especially Varanasi. This sitar is unique in that it
is completely made within their shop. Almost unheard
of today, this is a feature of their best sitars
with 3 dimensional carvings finely detailed that
rival the best Kanai Lal sitars of the past. Natural
inlaid materials throughout with a half open jawari
done and easy action, lotus garland design on the
tabli. Radhey also uses a soundhole in the top of
the neck which works rather well. Floral main pegs with hardwood sympathetics
with modern style sympathetic grommets. Radhey's
teak sitars project well and have a sound and
playability that equal the quality of workmanship
you see here. This sitar
was personally selected by us in Varanasi, fitted to
our specs and air shipped to our shop. A remarkable
instrument from a great maker!
