Mohammed Waseem teak Concert Sitar Style #2 with
white celluloid
Kharaj pancham (Ravi Shankar) style
From one of the
premier instrument makers in Miraj, Waseem is by far
the best carver and designer in India since Kanailal
& brother.
Aged teak
wood, single piece Miraj gourds. natural fittings
and bridges. Finish is shellac and very thin
providing a nice sound. White 1mm
celluloid with extensive penwork and fancy tar gahan
and beads. Large upper gourd with a 'tuned' top
tumbi hole
Perfection and grace.
Each one will be
slightly different!
Sound is
resonant and responsive with 1/2 open jawari. Waseems
bodies are easy to handle and not too heavy. He
makes his langot similar to a tanpura style string
mount so no loops needed for main strings. Secondary and final
fitting done here at the edge of the world by yours
truly.
I've known
Waseem for a very long time and happy to now be
offering his instruments. We visit yearly and are in
constant touch, the instruments are a nice
combination of both of our skills together!
Waseems
instruments are each unique so there are no carbon
copies although a nearly exact model can be ordered
if desired.
Air shipped (always) and fiberglass
included, shipping will vary depending on your
location. We have a waiting list for these,
please email to be
notified when the next one is available.
