Hiren Roy sitar sitars by Barun Roy

The first thing you'll notice about Hiren Roy sitars are that they have a new label! The shop on Rashbehari Avenue has been closed and Barun Ray (yes he spells it that way) is working from his shop at home now. We are fortunate to have a good history with him and regularly keep instruments on order. He's not making as many as he used to, these sitars are best for those wanting the "Hiren Roy school of touch". They have a remarkable response, flatter frets, and what is best described as a "butter smooth" tone. In my opinion the action is without equal, especially for those wanting a Nikhil Banerjee type of sound. Barun uses synthetic bridges and fittings made of a special type of Polyester Resin. Many of our Hiren Roy instruments are brought back personally during my yearly trips to Calcutta.

Hiren Roy #1 Full decoration Concert Sitar

Aged premium mahogany (tun) wood. Fully carved and decorated in single color penwork with an "OM" design on the strikeplate. Rosewood Lotus main pegs with inlaid sympathetic pegs. This is Barun Ray's top of the line model. Beautiful tone with the signature half open jawari. The sitar shown is the actual instrument in stock! Comes with a fiberglass hard case included in the price. This sitar has been air shipped (as are all of our instruments)to preserve its quality.

This is a custom order from Barun, we get only one per year and are the only dealer to get these to date. Future instruments will vary slightly, each is unique. A Beautiful tone with the signature half open jawari. Comes with a fiberglass hard case included in the price. Aged premium mahogany (tun) wood. Rosewood Sprial main pegs with plain sympathetic pegs. This is Barun's top of the line model and was made for a student of Sanjoy Bandopadhyay. Beautiful tone with closed jawari that has been done recently.
